Characteristics, Pitting:
Pitting characteristics is using your character’s characteristic score against another’s characteristics score (i.e., Awareness, Charisma, Constitution, Coordination, Dexterity, Intelligence, Mental-Strength, Strength and Wisdom).
The G.M. will most always ask you to add a certain characteristic to your % dice-roll when pitting yourself against another, whether it be a contest of strength, or mind against mind.
This method of winning a contest against another, or overcoming certain events and happenings, is highly used in this gaming system.
The following are examples of pitting characteristics:
%Dice will always be used when pitting characteristics.
Race to 4: Whoever wins the rolls against the other 4 times first.
Single roll check: Whoever wins the roll on a one-time dice roll.
Examples:
Strength vs. Strength
Player: "I’ve got a hold of this giant wolf. Now, I’m going to pin it . . . so it is helpless. I don't want to kill it. I'm going to take it to the gladiators arena and see how much I can get for it."
G.M.: "You are in “Battle-Lock”, so you have a hold of it, so pit your Strength against it. It will get a +15 added to the dice-roll because its strength is 30, and yours is 25 . . . roll."
Player: "I thought you only get +1 bonus per point above another's characteristic."
G.M.: "That is true with all but strength. Strength gets +3. Do you still want to try? Since you didn't know, I'll give you the choice."
Player: "Yeah, I'm going for it."
Player: "I rolled a 79 + my strength is 24, so my total is 103. Beat that!”
G.M.: "63 +15 equals a 78. Okay, you have subdued it. Nice, you did it."
Mental-strength vs. Mental-strength:
Player: "I’m going to cast Chaotic Reality on him."
G.M.: "Okay, pit your Mental-strength against his Mental-strength. You will gain a +17 on the roll because your mental-strength is 17 points higher than his."
Player: "87 +17 is 104."
G.M.: "43, creature loses. What did you want to do to it?"
Player: "Well, seeming it’s a goblin, and I do know some things about those freaks, I’ll become one of its superiors. I’ll make it perceive I am a Hoard Commander and start ripping into it verbally."
G.M.: "Okay, it begins to grovel like a sniveling coward. Well done".
Coordination vs. Awareness:
Player: "I want to sneak past the guard. I can’t fight her. She’s way too powerful."
G.M.: "Roll your % dice and add your coordination to the roll. I’ll add the guard’s awareness to my roll to see if she notices you."
Player: "I rolled a 67 + 27 coordination, which equals a 94."
G.M.: "I rolled a 45 + 35 awareness is a 80. You manage to slip past her without being noticed. You got lucky."
